On April 29 the 1904 Great Fire of Toronto destroys a large section of Toronto's downtown. This city's Union Station today stands on part of this destroyed area. The cause of this great fire has never been determined; it is suspected to either be due a faulty stove or an electrical fire. Amazingly, there were no fatalities in this inferno; of the five injuries incurred, the most serious was a broken ankle by one of the firefighters involved in fighting the blaze.
