Although celebrated since 1845, Victoria Day as a statutory holiday  is celebrated on May 24, 1902 for the first time. As holidays fall under the jurisdiction of provinces and territories, it isn't an official holiday in each province and territory.  For more information about this Victoria Day, click here. Today, this holiday is celebrated on the last Monday that comes before May 25. Throughout many parts of Canada, this holiday marks the unofficial of spring planting. It is also known as "May 24 weekend" (a humorous reference to a case of Canadian beer which usually contains 24 bottles or cans of beer).
