1916 - Women Get The Vote In Manitoba, Saskatchewan And Alberta

After extensive efforts by women such as Irene Marryat Parlby, Nellie McLung, Louise McKinney and Henrietta Muir Edwards and Emily Murphy, women got the right to vote in Manitoba (January 28), Saskatchewan (March 14) and Alberta (April 19). By 1919, women got the right to vote federally.











On July 16 the Canadian government authorizes the first and only all-black battalion in Canadian military history. The history of black soldiers in the Canadian military, however, predates this battalion (see here for more on this topic).
