1887 - Sir John A. Macdonald Wins Its Third Consecutive Federal Election. Tom Longboat is Born (February 22, 2017)

On February 22, Sir John A. Macdonald's Conservative Party wins its third consecutive federal election.

Future Canadian Prime Minister Wilfred Laurier becomes the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada on June 7. He will remain leader of the Liverals until 1919. He will eventually become Prime Minister from 1896 until 1911.

On June 4, the great, but controversial runner Tom Longboat is born. He was a Mohawk and was born with the name of Cogwagee. For much of his running career Tom Longboat was the leading long-distance runner of his time.
